SUMMARY:TCO May Public Night
DESCRIPTION:Public nights at the observatory are free but reservations are required (and are usually snapped up very quickly). Special arrangements for groups larger than about eight people may be made by sending an email to tco@uncg.edu. \n\n\n\nObserving will begin shortly after sunset at the announced time and continue for approximately 60 – 90 minutes. At a typical public observing session\, we will look at the following objects through the 32-inch telescope: star clusters\, nebulae\, galaxies\, double stars\, planets and the moon (if available). \n\n\n\nOn most nights a decision will be made as to cloud conditions\, sky suitability\, and road conditions on the afternoon of the event. To determine whether the observatory will be open please check our webpage “Is My TCO Public Night Cancelled” on the day for which you have tickets. \n\n\n\nWe schedule public nights approximately once a month between late September and June. (Summer months are typically so cloudy that observing is not much fun.) \n\n\n\nMore questions about Public Nights at the Three College Observatory? Read our Public Nights FAQs. \n\n\n\nPublic Nights at the TCO are operated as a public service. UNCG faculty volunteer their time to run the public nights\, take reservation requests\, answer questions\, and operate the telescope. \n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Here

SUMMARY:2025 Statewide Star Party at the Three College Observatory
DESCRIPTION:View the skies through the 32-inch telescope at the Three College Observatory\, one of the largest telescopes in the southeastern US!\n\n\n\nYou may sign up for a variety of times beginning at 7:45 pm.  This will make the viewing through our 32-inch telescope available to a much larger group of people than our typical public nights.  We will also have some activities for younger kids (typically 2nd grade and older)\, as well as outdoor viewing and other astronomy-related activities. Bring your lawn chair if you would like\, and enjoy our wonderful night skies! \n\n\n\nTickets are free but they are required. Please fill out and submit this form which is an application for reservations at the observatory on Friday\, April 4th\, 2025. If space is available\, you will receive a confirmation email in late March with your time slot. \n\n\n\nWe will do our best to accommodate everyone\, and request groups larger than 8 people please apply separately by sending an email to arschaefer@uncg.edu. \n\n\n\nPlease check our “Is My TCO Public Night Cancelled” page because cancellations due to clouds can occur. Our current postpone date is the following Saturday\, April 5th. If cancellation occurs or seems likely\, we will do our best to communicate with you via the email that you use as contact on the signup form.
